Electronic Communications
Whenever possible, choose modern Electronic Communications over paper based letters, newsletters, pamphlets, etc. Instead of a paper, send e-mail, text messages, an electronic bulletin board or blog, or create a web site. This can save a lot of paper, much of which is likely to become garbage.
Modern computer technologies and the internet are ingrained in today's youth. The older generations did not grow up with these relatively new technologies, and are often out of their league, and/or are scared of computers. Given this situation, one could better help the use of Electronic Communications by teaching the older generations about these technologies, such as how to use e-mail. But keep in mind to go nice and slow, until they get used to them.
When the author taught his grandfather (at the time of this writing 90 years old) how to use a computer and the internet, the grandfather had a really hard time using the mouse, as he had never used a personal computer before. So, it took several sessions in order for this older gentleman to get used to this. Eventually he now only got used to it, he would play with the computer so much that he would created 100s of shortcuts that the author had to continuously clean up every time he visited.
