Upgrade Needed?

There are a lot of people who buy the newest cell phone, Ipod, computer or computer equipment, TV, game system, or other electronic device. A short time later they find that there is an updated version of that item, sometimes with just fairly minor upgraded components or features. They then, of course, want to buy the latest version. And if they do, the first item purchased often is just kept until some later time when it is completely out of date, and is then discarded. When one is in this situation, from an environmental perspective, the person should ask themselves if buying this upgraded version of the item is really necessary. You more than likely, in most cases, could hold off buying something new until there is a much more significantly changed version of the item.

This situation has happened many times with persons who build a PC from components. A few months later, they buy an even more upgraded sound card, for example, than the one they had originally put in.

The truth is that most people realistically use only a small percentage of the possible capacity of modern electronic devices. Therefore a slight upgrade often is not worth while.

If you do get the upgrade, try to find a reuse of the old equipment, such as by donating it or selling it for a reasonable price.
